9.00 Welcome and Introduction

9.10 Keynote - "Track-before-detect in UWB wireless sensor radar" Prof. Enrico Paolini, University of Bologna

Bio: Enrico Paolini received the Dr. Ing. degree (summa cum laude) in Telecommunications Engineering in 2003 and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2007, both from the University of Bologna, Italy.

While working toward the Ph.D. degree, he was Visiting Research Scholar with the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, Honolulu, HI, USA. From 2007 to 2010, he held a postdoctoral position with the University of Bologna. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi" (DEI), University of Bologna. In 2018 he obtained the Italian national scientific qualification for the position of full professor. His research interests include error-control coding, wireless access protocols, and tracking algorithms in radar systems. In the field of error correcting codes, has been involved since 2004 in several activities with the European Space Agency (ESA). He is a frequent visitor at the Institute of Communications and Navigation of the German Aerospace Center, where he was Visiting Scientist in 2012 and 2014 under DLR-DAAD fellowships.

Dr. Paolini is Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications and past Editor (2012-2015) for the IEEE Communications Letters. He served on the Technical Program Committee at several IEEE International Conferences. He also served on the Organizing Committee (as co-chair) of the ICC'14, ICC'15, and ICC'16 Workshop on Massive Uncoordinated Access Protocols (MASSAP) and (as treasurer) of the 2011 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband (ICUWB 2011). He has been appointed TPC co-chair for the Communication Theory Symposium of GLOBECOM 2019. He is member of the IEEE Communications Society and of the IEEE Information Theory Society and vice-chair of the Italian Chapter of the ITSoc.
