Title: Overview of Key NSF-CISE programs

Abstract: In this talk, I will overview key programs in CISE such as Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace (SaTC) and Resilient and Intelligent NextG Systems (RINGS) programs that may be of interest to the Workshop participants.

 

Bio: Dr. James Joshi is a Program Director of the Computer and Network Systems (CNS) division of the US National Science Foundation (NSF), and its Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace (SaTC) program. He has been at NSF since Fall, 2019 as a rotator from the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt), where he is a professor of School of Computing and Information (SCI). He currently serves as a co-Chair of the NITRD Privacy Interagency Working Group. At Pitt, he has been serving as the Founding Director of the Laboratory of Education and Research on Security Assured Information Systems (LERSAIS). His research interests include access control and trust management, security and privacy of distributed systems (e.g., Cloud/Edge Computing, Social Networks, Location Based Services, etc.), insider threats, and privacy-preserving Machine Learning. He is an elected Fellow of the Society of Information Reuse and Integration (SIRI), a Senior member of the IEEE, and a Distinguished Member of the ACM. He was a recipient of the NSF CAREER award in 2006. He is also the recipient of the 2018 SIRI Research Leadership Award. He has served as a general co-chair and program co-chair of several international conferences/workshops, including, ACM SACMAT, IEEE BigData, IEEE IRI, IEEE CIC, IEEE ISM, and IEEE EDGE. He is the founding steering committee chair of the following three co-located IEEE Conferences on: Trust, Privacy and Security in Intelligent Systems, and Applications (IEEE TPS); Collaboration and Internet Computing  (IEEE CIC); and Cognitive Machine Intelligence (IEEE CogMI). He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, and also has served or is currently serving in the editorial boards of several other international journals, including ACM Digital Threats: Research and Practice (DTRAP), International Journal of Network Security, and Springer Journal of BigData. He has published over 140 articles as book chapters and papers in journals, conferences and workshops.
